Aug, 2001 : ICC Named ECI Provider for US Dept of Defense


📅 - Internet Commerce Corporation (icc.net), a leader in the e-commerce business-to-business communication services market, yesterday announced that the ICC network service hasbeen certified as a Value Added Network (VAN) forconnecting to the Electronic Commerce Infrastructureof the United States Department of Defense(defenselink.mil).

The ICC network service was rigorously tested andevaluated by the DOD regarding standards andimplementation conventions, data responsibility,in-line document translation, customer support, andquality control issues. After successfully undergoingthis Electronic Commerce Interoperability Process(ECIP) the ICC network service was approved andconnectivity between the DOD and ICC was established.
G. Michael Cassidy, president and CEO of ICC, said,"Becoming an ECI provider to the Department of Defensepresents significant opportunities for ICC. Currently,the DOD has an estimated $270 billion procurementbudget, making it one of the world's largestgenerators of electronic data interchangetransactions. Using the ICC network service, tradingpartners of all sizes can now take advantage of ICC'ssuperior service, speed, flexibility, and significantcost savings when communicating their e-commercedocuments with the DOD."
Additionally, in a related development, ICC announcedit has extended the reach of its network, for thebenefit of its customers, by adding five newinterconnections to other e-commerce networks,bringing the total number of supported networks toover 50. Interconnections allow companies on differentnetworks to communicate with each other, therebypromoting growth in e-commerce and improvements inoverall business productivity and cooperation.
