Oct, 2001 : Speedera Introduces Secure Streaming Service

📅 - Speedera Networks, Inc. (speedera.com), content deliveryservices provider, announced yesterday its new Secure Streaming service, which enables content providers to securely deliver their streaming contentto users across the Internet with less risk that the content will be stolenor illicitly posted on other Web sites. Speedera's Secure Streaming service,an industry first, is available now.

"Amazon.com already uses Speedera's streaming services to deliver musicsamples, movie trailers, and game previews as a way to enrich the shoppingexperience for our customers," said Jeff Blackburn, general manager ofAmazon (amazon.com). "Speedera's new streaming service provides us with a means to innovate even further, by giving customers instant access to new music releases in digital form, while they await their CD shipment."
Speedera's Secure Streaming service protects streamed content against theftand copyright violations through technology best thought of as"plug-and-play" secure streaming for digital content. Unlike traditionaldigital rights management solutions, Speedera's Secure Streaming isaffordable, works across multiple formats of streaming media content -including QuickTime, Microsoft's Windows Media and RealNetworks' RealMediaformat - and requires no client software installation.
"Now more than ever, security is playing an important role as therequirements for streaming audio and video over the Internet continue todevelop," said Greg Howard, principal analyst for HTRC Group. "Our researchshows that secure streaming will be a fundamental requirement for mostorganizations. Speedera's new service opens up new possibilities for contentproviders who want to sell streaming content such as training, films, andmusic over the Internet while minimizing the risk of the content beingillicitly distributed."
Speedera's Secure Streaming service has many uses, including pay-per-viewand subscription services, theft prevention, and ticketing. Since deliveryof live streams for popular events can be a particular problem for contentproviders, facing potentially unlimited and unpredictable bandwidth bills,Secure Streaming's ability to limit viewers only to those holding valid"tickets" to that live event is very valuable.
Since licenses to sell content are frequently limited by country, SecureStreaming can be paired with geographic targeting to ensure that content isonly streamed to those countries where distribution is authorized.
