Broadband Wireless Internet Forum Invites Government Participation

📅 - The Broadband Wireless Internet Forum (bwif.org) is seekingto involve government officials in the rollout of the next generation ofbroadband services. The member companies of BWIF support anonline-of-sight,high-speed wireless transmission system that deliversInternet, streaming video and audio, as well as voice.

"We feel that wireless broadband offers exceptional advantages over wiredand cable systems because it does not require digging up streets and majordisruptions in communities," said Ender Ayanoglu, chairman of BWIF. "Forthat reason, we are anxious to include government officials at all levels inour plans to rollout these next generation systems."
As a means of structuring a way to assure government input, BWIF created anew membership category for government agencies at its last meeting. State, local and federal government entities can join BWIF and participate in itsdiscussions and planning at no cost. For further information and todownload membership documents, please visit the BWIF Web site(bwif.org/membership.html).
The 51 companies that make up BWIF include some of the world's majormanufacturers of communications hardware and software. BWIF is aninternational organization that supports and promotes a specific fixedwireless transmission technology that delivers high-speed, nonline-of-sightaccess to the Internet. A high-bandwidth wireless system offers dramaticlogistical and financial benefits because of its ease of deployment. Untilrecently, however, wireless broadband systems needed clear line-of-sightbetween the transmitter and the customer's antenna. The technologysupported by BWIF eliminates that problem. Called Vector OrthogonalFrequency Division Multiplexing (VOFDM), the technology is capable ofoperating in a wide range of environments from highly urban to rural.
