EDS Announces US$1 Billion in N. American , European Contracts

📅 October 19, 2001 - EDS (eds.com) announced yesterday US$1 billion in contract signings with public and private sector clients in North America and Europe.

The announcements, terms of which were not disclosed, include a contractwith Germany-based Koenig & Bauer AG group (kba-print.de), a major printingpress manufacturer. EDS' new PLM Solutions line of business will provide1,000 licenses of its Internet-centric definition management software,i-Man, to enable KBA to make product and process information readilyavailable to all departments throughout the company.
It also included a six-year contract to provide the Quebec government withimplementation of Oracle integrated management software, includingapplications in human resources, financial management and materialsmanagement. EDS Canada was awarded the contract after the Quebec governmentlaunched an open, competitive bidding process early in the year. Thecontract will help EDS increase its Quebec presence by more than 100 people.
EDS additionally signed multi-year service extension agreement with DelphiAutomotive Systems, a mobile electronics and transportation componentsmanufacturer. Under the agreement, EDS will continue to provide a variety ofservices to support Delphi's IT strategy - which seeks to optimizetechnology support through a combination of internal and external resources.EDS - through a collaborative effort among its Information Solutions,Business Process Management and E Solutions lines of business - will supportDelphi's legacy IT systems, desktops, servers and routers.

(sprint.com), the third-largest U.S. long-distance telephone company, said Wednesday that it would scrap an expensive high-speed network project and cut 6,000 jobs, or 7 percent of its workforce. In a bid to cut costs and eliminate a drain on profits, Sprint decided to terminate its high-speed network initiative.
