Telus Invests $2m in Jamcracker, Forms Canadian Partnership

📅 October 19, 2001 - Telus Ventures (telus.com) has invested US$2 million in enterprise Web services company, Jamcracker, Inc. (jamcracker.com) of Cupertino California and formed a partnership to offer Jamcracker services in Canada.

The Telus investment and partnership provides Jamcracker immediate,nationwide entry into the Canadian market. The partnership provides Telusthe first marketing and distribution agreement for Jamcracker services inCanada. The deal is expected to provide Telus in excess of C$50 million ofrevenue over the next three years.
As part of the strategic partnership, Telus will offer its customers theJamcracker Enterprise delivery platform through Telus Enterprise Solutions.Branded as 'Telus Central', the platform provides numerous Web-relatedservices, including on-line data backup, Web conferencing, time and expensemanagement and the automation of sales force and professional servicesinformation. Additional services such as e-mail, Virtual Private Network andcomputer virus protection will also be available.
Customers can access applications, services and support through the TelusCentral portal through any Internet-connected computer. This new platformenables business customers to streamline and simply manage theirapplications and IT investments - reducing costs, increasing productivityand company-wide efficiencies.
The first customer to take advantage of the Telus Central service isAdvanced Technical Training Academy, a Calgary-based company that providestechnical training and development in partnership with major corporationsand public institutions.
"Jamcracker has an excellent reputation as a Web-enabled informationtechnology service provider and is known for its specialized skills indelivering, integrating, and supporting Web-enabled services for businesscustomers," says Mark Schnarr, Telus executive-vice president and president,Telus Ventures.

(sprint.com), the third-largest U.S. long-distance telephone company, said Wednesday that it would scrap an expensive high-speed network project and cut 6,000 jobs, or 7 percent of its workforce.
