Sun Microsystems Chosen by Shaw Communications to Build Internet Data Center

Sun was the provider of choice for Shaw's first Internet data center,successfully launched in August 2001. Shaw's purchase of Sun Enterprise4500, 6500, 280R, 420R and Netra T1 servers, Sun StorEdge T3 arrays, SunStorEdge FC Network Switches, the Solaris 8 Operating Environment, iPlanete-commerce applications and Sun Professional Services, will help positionShaw for anticipated growth by providing superior performance, security andreliability to its customers.
Shaw Communications provides nearly three million customers with broadbandcable television, Internet and satellite services. Ranked one of the top twofastest providers of high-speed Internet services worldwide, as of October30, 2001 by DSLReports.com, Shaw provides high-speed Internet access toroughly 650,000 Canadians. DSLReports.com is a do-it-yourself speed testsite that rates more than 75 DSL and cable modem providers worldwide.
In order to meet demand and continue providing customers with the bestpossible Internet experience, Shaw built its first Internet data center in2001, with the assistance of Sun Professional Services, and powered by afull range of Sun Enterprise servers, the Solaris 8 Operating Environment,Sun StorEdge T3 arrays, Sun StorEdge FC Network Switches and iPlanete-commerce applications. Drawing on its ISP implementation expertise, SunProfessional Services was able to reduce the implementation time for theCenter by 50 per cent, ensuring a quick, seamless transition to the new Shawservice.
