📅 January 3, 2002 - John W. Thompson, chairman and chief executive officer of Symantec Corp. (symantec.com), announced yesterday the appointment of John Schwarz as president and chief operating officer of Symantec. Schwarz, who will report to Thompson, was president and CEO of Reciprocal, an early stage security software company focused on digital rights management. As president and COO of Symantec, Schwarz will be responsible for all product development, incident response, sales, support, professional services and partner relationships.

Schwarz brings an extensive enterprise solutions development, industrymarketing and executive management background to Symantec. Prior to joiningReciprocal, he was the general manager of IBM's Industry Solutions unit, aworldwide organization focused on building business applications and relatedservices for IBM's large industry customers. In addition to managing severalenterprise software development operations, he also led IBM's industryalliance programs, establishing strong partnerships with thousands ofsoftware developers around the world.
"Over the past two years, Symantec's enterprise security business has seentremendous growth," said Thompson. "Customers around the world are lookingfor a security partner to provide total security solutions - technology,services and response.
