Feb, 2002 : KPNQwest Chosen by KLM for Pan-European VPN
📅 - KPNQwest, a pan-European data communicationsand hosting company, announced today that it has signed a contract to builda fully integrated 12-site IP-VPN solution across six European countries forKLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
Under the terms of the deal KPNQwest will provide an IP-VPN solution to KLMEngineering & Maintenance. The network will seamlessly connect KLM's mainheadquarter site, located at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport, to KLM locationsin France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK.
KLM Engineering & Maintenance employees will benefit from being connected toone corporate network used to support collaborative working environments,knowledge management, information exchange and enterprise applications. Inaddition, it will allow KLM E&M to access, update and share information inrealtime, with its key business partners including General Electric, Boeing,Pratt & Whitney and Sundstrand, through a dedicated extranet connection.
Since the data traffic is carried across the 15-country EuroRings network,which links to the Qwest network in the United States, the solution can bescaled out rapidly, the company said. It can also be used to supportrealtime applications, such as IP Voice, allowing the company to combine itsvoice and data traffic across one infrastructure.

The KPNQwest IP-VPN provides secure desktop-to-desktop connectivity via over350 PoPs in 19 European countries with seamless interoperability across afurther 160,000 km network in the USA and Asia, and extended reach from7,500 PoPs in 150 countries via analogue, ISDN, and GSM phone connections.
