Feb, 2002 : Lucent Announces New Intelligent Access Point Routers


📅 - Lucent Technologies (lucent.com) today announced a family ofnext-generation Internet protocol services routers and a suite of softwarepackages for service providers and Lucent Global BusinessPartners rollingout customer premise-based IP services solutions. The new Access Point IPservices routers will be sold worldwide through Lucent GlobalBusinessPartners and service providers working directly to deliver IPservices to enterprise customers.

The new Access Point 300, 600 and 1500 routers enable service providers andGlobal BusinessPartners - the first of which include Baker Consultants,Landis ICT Group and Tekmark Global Solutions, LLC - to provide enterprisecustomers in small offices, branch offices or regional headquarters a rangeof services from basic Internet access to more advanced IP applications suchas virtual private networks, firewall security and bandwidth management.
The new Access Point solutions support four software packages givingcustomers the flexibility to tailor their applications to specific needs. Inaddition to basic Internet access and routing services, the Base Packagesupports managed bandwidth with integrated quality of service, firewallsecurity, and IP management. The Advanced Networking Package includeseverything in the Base Package as well as advanced routing, mobility andlayer 2 tunneling capabilities. Other packages include the QVPN for IPSecVPN implementation and an all-encompassing IP Services package.
The Access Point product line also includes the Access Point QVPN Builder, acentralized IP-VPN, QoS and firewall policy manager enabling serviceproviders to cost effectively deploy, manage and scale site-to-site VPNs andother services in large networks.
"The price reductions and advanced software and services features in the newAccess Point IP routers are further evidence of our price/performanceleadership, and enable customers to choose basic IP access or advanced IPservices in one solution with advantages of over twice the performance foradvanced IP services at a lower price," said Fred Kemmerer, vice presidentand general manager, IP Services Group, Lucent Technologies.

In addition, Lucent Worldwide Services' RTS (Remote Technical Support)Advantage will give service providers and business customers round-the-clockremote diagnostic, problem management, and software upgrade coverage for theAccess Point routers.
The Access Point 300, available today in five fixed configurations, ispriced from $3,500 to $8,000 and features IP forwarding rates of 50 megabitsper second , 3DES forwarding rates of 5Mbps, and150/500 IPSec site-to-siteand remote access VPN tunnels. The Access Point 600 is priced from $9,600 to$29,000 and features IP forwarding rates of 220Mbps, 3DES encryption ratesof 90Mbps and 600/3,500 IPSec site-to-site and remote access VPN tunnels.
The Access Point 1500, available in June, is priced from $12,000 to $55,000and features IP forwarding rates of 700Mbps, 3DES encryption rates of155Mbps and 1,000/5,000 IPSec site-to-site and remote access VPN tunnels.
