📅 February 15, 2002 - Sun Microsystems, Inc today announces anaggressive series of programs called "Project Blue-Away," aimed at targetedcustomers and IBM customers to replace IBM with Sun solutions. The firstprogram within Project Blue-Away is a competitive replacement program forNUMA-Q, that offers neglected NUMA-Q users an alternative to IBM's serverarchitecture.

Offering customers higher service response times, reliability andscalability than NUMA-Q, and lower total cost of ownership, ProjectBlue-Away's replacement program for NUMA-Q has already moved a number ofxSeries users to Sun's Solaris Operating Environment-based UNIX platform,including Littlewoods, Rural Payments Agency and Virgin Atlantic Airways.Sun's Solaris Operating Environment, migration services and financialsolutions offer xSeries users a powerful replacement alternative for the"end-of-life" NUMA-Q platform.
"Sun brought together the perfect mix of products, processes, and people tohelp us migrate cost effectively from IBM's NUMA-Q servers to the SunSolaris Operating Environment, SPARC Platform Edition," said David Hallett,Group IT director, Littlewoods.
