Virtuozzo Enables 2000+ Instances of Linux on a Single Server

📅 February 21, 2002 - SWsoft, Inc. (swsoft.com), a server and networking softwarecompany, today announced testing results for Virtuozzo 2.1 (virtuozzo.com), that supports over 2000 instances of the Linux O/S on a low-end Dell 8450 PowerEdge server.

SWsoft is offering highly scalable virtualization technology for the opensource Linux OS that will enable enterprises to consolidate servers in thedata center and manage the proliferation of unconnected, underused servers.
Virtuozzo 2.1, available now for beta download, will officially be launchedin Q2 2002. New features include VZMC - a full GUI management tool, supportfor up to 64GB physical memory, name-based hosting, security enhancements,improved Service Level Management features such as advanced bandwidthmanagement, improved bandwidth accounting and smart migration of VEs.Virtuozzo 2.1 features a new Web accelerator which uses the latest Linuxkernel features like zero-copy sendfile and TCP_CORK options.
"These test results show Virtuozzo improves the high-end performance ofInternet applications on Intel-based servers," added Craig Oda, VP businessdevelopment, SWsoft. Performance testing was conducted by the SWsoft development team, whichincludes Alexey Kusnetsov, who maintains the networking code of the Linuxkernel. Virtuozzo achieved their results using the Dell 8450 PowerEdgeservers running RedHat Linux 7.2.
Virtuozzo is available now for purchase beginning at $250 (withoutinstallation.) A complete solution of Dell 8450 hardware, software, OS, andimplementation that allows scaling to 2,000 Linux instances starts at$25,000.
