Mar, 2002 : Sprint Hosting Receives SAS 70 and SysTrust Assurances
📅 - Telecommunications company Sprint (sprint.com) announced on Friday that it has received certain essential third-party assurances on the quality of its hosting services and facilities under the Statement of Auditing Standards Number 70 (SAS 70) and SysTrust.
The SAS 70, which measured the adequacy of controls as well as the availability, security, integrity and maintainability of its managed hosting and colocation services, and SysTrust, which measured its Internet Centers, says Sprint, are critical assurances for the financial services, manufacturing and healthcare segments.
Issued under guidance established by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), says Sprint, the SAS 70 and SysTrust approval assures enterprises that they can use Sprint E|Solutions as a managed service provider with confidence. Certification becomes more necessary, says Sprint, as more companies require proof that their hosting provider has a stable and secure network in place to support the exchange of private customer financial data.
?SAS 70 and SysTrust have been important assurance standards for the financial service segment for years,? says Keith Paglusch, president of Sprint E|Solutions. ?Recent legislation, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, makes these assurances critical for the healthcare segment as well."
In order to determine SAS 70 assurance, a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) evaluated Sprint's Internet Center controls that may be relevant to a customer's internal audit controls for its financial statements. The SAS 70 report, says Sprint, also includes a description of the Internet Center, and the controls in place.
Also conducted by a CPA, says Sprint, a SysTrust evaluation measures the reliability of a service provider's system based on the standards set forth by the AICPA relating to security measures, system processing integrity and the ability to update the system while continuing to meet those requirements.
Sprint says a part of demonstrating its dedication to customer needs is offering facilities and services backed with service level agreements and third-party assurances. In addition to SAS 70 and SysTrust, Sprint has achieved SunTone certification from Sun Microsystems for its managed hosting and colocation services, and implemented service level guarantees for 100 percent uptime.
