Rackshack Signs Deal With Compaq, Purchases Webhostingtalk.com
📅 - Computer giant Compaq Corp. said today it had signed a three-year, $20 million agreement with RackShack (rackshack.net), a subsidiary of Everyones Internet, to equip the company's data centers with ProLiant servers for Linux-based Web hosting solutions.
The new RackShack solution will run the Linux operating system and Ensim's WEBppliance automation platform. Under the agreement, RackShack will immediately deploy approximately 1,000 ProLiant DL320 servers and purchase an additional 8,000 to 10,000 servers over the next two to three years.
"Everyones Internet has grown about 100 percent over the last year and we needed an IT partner to support our growing business," said Robert Marsh, President and CEO of Everyones Internet, in a release.
Late yesterday, Marsh also said that the Texas-based Web hosting firm had purchased Webhostingtalk.com, a popular Web hosting community forum with more than 12,000 registered members. While an official announcement is still pending, Marsh told the community in a message last night that "there will be no wholesale changes to the forum other than that the advertising rates will change." Marsh said ad revenues would be used "to promote Web Hosting Talk as an open industry forum."
