Apr, 2002 : Cogent Expands Reach Through Colo Agreement
📅 - Cogent Communications (cogent.com), a tier-one optical ISP, announced on Monday that it has expanded its network reach through a colocation arrangement with Colo4-Dalas, a carrier-neutral facility based in Dallas.
The arrangement, says Cogent, enhances the company's ability to provide high-speed Internet connectivity as well as long-haul and metropolitan data transport services to its carrier, service provider and end-user customer base.
Colo4-Dallas has adjusted its product line to accommodate Cogent's potential clients and their space requirements, now offering half and full racks. Cogent says the arrangement will allow Web hosting and online applications companies with small servers but high bandwidth needs to house their equipment for a fraction of the cost of a whole rack or cabinet. Cogent's equipment will be stored in a caged area, separate from other customers.
Colo4-Dallas says its business model involves bringing together customers and providers, a system furthered by the contract with Cogent. "To date, every carrier that has built into our facility has received at least one customer through a referral from Colo4-Dallas," says Paul VanMeter, president and CTO of Colo4-Dallas. "Our decision to offer smaller rack space will continue to assist Cogent's new business efforts."
Cogent says its 12,400 mile long-haul backbone and metropolitan network services 20 cities and runs independent of traditional carrier networks. Built specifically for IP data, says the company, the network avoids the costs associated with SONET-protected voice infrastructure.
"Following our acquisition of Allied Riser in February, we continue to expand our presence in the Metroplex," said Dave Schaeffer, CEO, Cogent Communications. "We have gained access to several new buildings in the market and the relationship with Colo4-Dallas will only accelerate our rapidly expanding customer base."
Cogent says it is able to offer service provider customers some of the lowest bandwidth prices in the country, supplying dedicated 100 mbps connections for $3,000 per month.
