Apr 15, 2002 : Red Hat Unveils Enterprise Web Server
📅 - Open source and Linux provider Red Hat Inc. (redhat.com) announced on Monday that it has released its Stronghold Enterprise, an open source Web server, and the latest addition to the company's new line of enterprise solutions.
Stronghold Enterprise, says Red Hat, is a secure Web server based on Apache that provides enhanced security features, high performance and tools to improve application interoperability. The server is particularly suited to companies that require secure integration with their customers and partners.
The release of Stronghold Enterprise, says Red Hat, follows last month's release of Red Hat Linux Advanced Server, the first solution in the company's Enterprise line. Advanced Server and Stronghold Enterprise are designed to work together to provide enterprises with stability, performance and low cost of ownership. The combination, says Red Hat, includes software and value-added services to provide enterprises with the means to deploy and manage large numbers of Web servers.
"Successful enterprises, their customers and their business partners know that secure data is the foundation of a solid business, and rightfully demand a high-performance, reliable Web server.,? says Paul Cormier, executive vice president of engineering at Red Hat. ?Stronghold Enterprise is the best choice for enterprises that want to break free of proprietary operating systems while enhancing the security and reliability of their business data."
According to Red Hat, Stronghold Enterprise for Advanced Server incorporates the company's Content Accelerator for performance enhancement and is Red Hat Network-enabled for security alerts and software updates.
Based on open source projects like Apache and OpenSSL, which include features for secure page delivery, says Red Hat, Stronghold Enterprise is secure and reliable, including tools to ensure performance. The software also includes editing and management tools such as Tomcat, AxKit and DAV. It also includes support for PHP and Perl.
Red Hat says Stronghold Enterprise will be available later this month on Linux and Unix platforms. The software and updates will be available through the Red Hat Network on a subscription basis when installed on Advanced Server. Stronghold Enterprise costs $995 per server and includes a subscription for 1 year of email support and product updates.
