May 14, 2002 : Dell Debuts Rack Dense PowerEdge Server

📅 May 14, 2002 - Computing hardware developer Dell Computer Corporation (dell.com) announced on Monday that it has released one of the most powerful rack-optimized servers available today, with prices starting at $2,399.

The PowerEdge 2650, says Dell, is perfect for use as an email, file/print or Web server, as well as being good for high-performance computing clusters, storage area networks and small-scale departmental database applications.
According to the company, Microsoft will use PowerEdge 2650 servers as part of a collaborative effort with Dell to help bring high-performance InfiniBand technology to the market for enterprise customers.
The PowerEdge 2650 features up to 6GB of memory and five hot-plug SCSI hard drives for up to 365 GB of internal storage. The product also includes dual Intel Xeon processors with speeds of up to 2.4 GHz, optional embedded RAID with 128 MB of cache, three PCI-X expansion slots, dual embedded PCI-X gigabit network interface cards, embedded remote access server management and other features.
Dell says the PowerEdge 2650 is suitable for either centralized or decentralized data center deployment. The device supports Dell's Embedded Remote Access technology, which provides a dedicated port that can be used to manage the server. The company's OpenManager software compliments this with an easy to use interface.

The PowerEdge 2650 is available factory installed with Microsoft Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Red Hat Linux. The device is certified for Novell NetWare and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0.

📅 May 15, 2002 - Interliant Obtains $7.5 Million Loan for Operations - Managed infrastructure services firm Interliant, Inc. (interliant.com) said today it has secured a working loan of $7.5 million from Silicon Valley Bank, a California chartered bank with principal offices in Santa Clara, California. The underlying loan agreement has a term of one year and provides for interest at prime plus two percent on amounts borrowed. The loan is collateralized by a first-priority security interest in the company's personal property. As part of this transaction, Interliant also issued to Silicon Valley Bank a warrant to purchase 1.2 million shares of its common stock at $0.30 per share.
