May, 2002 : Savvis to Provide REDIBook ECN With Network Services

📅 May 22, 2002 - Network services provider Savvis Communications (savvis.com) said today that the REDIBook ECN, recently merged with the Archipelago ECN, will offer secured IP VPN connectivity to its trade matching and routing systems via SAVVIS' Financial Xchange services.

Electronic Communication Networks, or ECNs, provide an online method for buyers and sellers from the finance sector to collaborate and execute trades. Archipelago and REDIBook recently completed their merger, combining the two fast-growing ECNs in to one merged entity that will be called Archipelago. Currently, the Archipelago and REDIBook ECN systems are operating separately, but integration is scheduled to begin late in the second quarter, with connectivity to the combined platform available through SAVVIS.
"REDIBook and Archipelago share a long history of using various networking technologies to deliver superior trading capabilities to our customers," said Mike Cormack, President of Archipelago. "Savvis' Financial Xchange solutions enable us to grow our business by connecting our applications to the financial institutions already on the SAVVIS network and improve network access to our trading partners via Savvis' private IP VPN."

📅 May 21, 2002 - Metromedia Files for Bankruptcy Protection - Digital communications and infrastructure firm Metromedia Fiber Network (mfn.com) said yesterday it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. The company said most of its domestic subsidiaries had also filed for protection.
