📅 August 6, 2002 - Loudcloud Inc. (Loudcloud.com, the IT automation software provider and former Web host soon to be re-branded as Opsware Inc., announced on Tuesday that it has released 60 intelligent software modules (ISMs) for its Opsware System 3.

The ISMs, says Loudcloud, bundle software, configuration and control logic, and include operation documentation, for managing the complex talks of provisioning, deploying, configuring and modifying servers and applications. They support a range of software products, including operating systems, databases, Web servers, application servers and business applications.
Loudcloud says the ISMs value lies in the depth of information they each contain. Each ISM includes operational knowledge like installation information, application instance profiles, compatibility data, scaling models, patch levels, monitoring configurations and other operational attributes.
The increasing complexity of IT environments, says Loudcloud, has challenged many organizations with acquiring and maintaining operational expertise in an increasing number of technologies. The company says its Opsware ISMs allow organizations to use Loudcloud's expertise, as well as build their own ISMs.
"The constant struggle to hire, train and maintain expertise across a large organization is only getting harder in today's technologically diverse environments," says Tim Howes, CTO and executive vice president of development for Loudcloud. "Using Opsware, customers can leverage the years of deep domain knowledge our research group has built into ISM's as well as their own experts. Encapsulating this knowledge in ISMs allows customers to accurately configure, deploy and manage a vast number of technologies, even with limited resources."
