📅 September 19, 2002 - Research organization Tier 1 Research (tier1research.com) announced on Wednesday that it has released the results of two significant new research projects, covering both levels of service and market trends in the Internet infrastructure and data center markets.

Co-authored by Joshua Beil and Andy Schroepfer, ?How Good is Good Enough V2.0? examines service level agreements (SLA), objectives (SLO) and management (SLM) in the Internet infrastructure sector.Following up on the original November 2001 publication, the updated 127-page report compares the results of an in-depth 61-item SLA survey completed by nearly two dozen service providers and explores the SLM sector with profiles of nearly a dozen solution vendors.
Authored by Andy Schroepfer, ?Mid-Year Infrastructure PreReview: Someone Broke the ?Hockey Stick? but 2Q02 Results Show Industry Growth,? reviews the top 10 data center market trends and provides an update of revenues and market share for more than 17 hosting providers.
Tier 1 says this 48-page report includes three significant sections, including a review of the top 10 trends in the data center market; details of the 2001 and 2002 revenue and market share for colocation and managed hosting services across 79 providers; and a review of key events in the past six months and a forecast of several expected events in the data center space.

📅 Sep 20, 2002 - Alcatel to Cut 20,000 Jobs - French telecommunications equipment provider Alcatel said on Friday that it plans to cut approximately 20,000 more jobs in its efforts to return to combat a deteriorating market and return to profitability. The reductions reportedly include about 10,000 positions the company decided to cut in July but did not officially announce. The new cuts will come in addition to approximately 30,000 jobs Alcatel already planned to cut in 2001 and 2002. 📅 Sep 20, 2002 - IDT Acquires Star Fiber Network - Telecommunications carrier IDT Corporation (idt.net) announced on Friday that its IDT Telecom subsidiary has acquired certain indefeasible rights of use (IRUs) and equipment from the estate of Star Telecommunications Inc. IDT says it completed the acquisition after the US Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Delaware selected the company as the winning bidder and authorized the purchase. 📅 Sep 20, 2002 - Global Crossing Seeks Approval of Settlement - Bankrupt telecommunications carrier Global Crossing Ltd. is reportedly planning to seek court approval next week for the settlement of $497 million in claims by seven of the company's major equipment and construction vendors. Global Crossing's proposed settlement would see the company pay about $113.5 million in installments, and allow the vendors to have general unsecured claims of about $82 million in total.
