📅 - Core Internet exchange service provider Equinix Inc. (Equinix.com) announced on Wednesday that it has been selected by cable company Cox Communications to facilitate interconnection with a selection of leading Internet infrastructure providers at Equinix Internet hubs.
As part of the agreement, Cox has extended its own network into Equinix's Dallas, Los Angeles and Washington, DC area Internet Business Exchange (IBX) centers, with possible expansions into other facilities. By locating within the Equinix IBX centers, says Equinix, Cox can interconnect with a range of strategic Internet infrastructure companies within the same facility, enhancing the scalability of its service and reducing the transport costs associated with linking to these partners over long distances in disparate locations. Equinix says the direct interconnections will allow Cox to grow its operations with more flexibility. "Large broadband communication providers such as Cox Communications have found Equinix's Internet hubs to be an ideal environment to establish relationships with their strategic partners and customers," said Jay Adelson, CTO of Equinix, Inc. "Equinix now offers access to more than 100 different networks providing the most comprehensive array of products and services. Through direct access to these networks, Internet companies can enhance their performance as well as dramatically reduce the costs of connecting with multiple partners in different locations."
