Mar, 2003 : IBM Supports Online College Applications
📅 - IT services provider IBM (IBM.com) announced on Friday that it has been helping colleges respond to a surge in student online applications resulting from the elimination of Grade 13 in Ontario, which has nearly three times as many students applying to Ontario colleges online this year.
IBM says its new on demand technology services are allowing customers like the Ontario College Application Services (OCAS) to meet the spike in demand for computing power by paying for technology services consumed during peak periods, and scale back during slower months.
Through OntarioColleges.ca, says IBM, students can access faster, easier methods for applying, tracking the progress of their applications, check the status of payments and validate grade submissions in a secure environment. Through IBM's support, OCAS has transformed its business from a paper-based model to an online service model that can respond quickly and on demand.
"With this 'double-cohort' year, Ontario College Application Services is facing the challenge of a record number of applications, resulting in a growing load on their systems," said France Dube, General Manager, e-business Hosting, IBM Canada Limited. "IBM's e-business on demand services provide customers like OCAS with the rock-solid infrastructure they need during peak periods, and the flexibility to scale down and save money during slow periods."
