May 14, 2003 : Red Hat Adds New Board Member

📅 May 14, 2003 - Red Hat Inc. (redhat.com) today announced that W. Steve Albrecht has joined Red Hat's board of directors. Albrecht is associate dean of the Marriott School of Management and Arthur Anderson professor at Brigham Young University.

Albrecht has authored over 20 books and 80 professional journal articles on business fraud and other accounting-related topics. He holds a PhD, Accounting from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and certified public accountant, certified internal auditor and certified fraud examiner designations.
Red Hat is an open source and Linux provider headquartered in Raleigh, North Carolina.

(intel.com) warned customers on Monday of an electrical problem in some of its Itanium 2 server processors that can lead to unpredictable behavior and cause severs to crash. Intel spokesman Robert Manetta said that the problem only affects some of the processors and under specific conditions involving particular types of data and computing instructions. He could not say how many chips might be affected by the flaw. Intel also announced that it will replace the chip for affected customers. 📅 May 15, 2003 - 'Buffalo Spammer' Arrested in New York - Howard Carmack, aka the ?Buffalo Spammer? was arrested and arraigned yesterday in New York on four felony and two misdemeanor counts. The arrest stems from charges that the accused fraudulently obtained Internet access accounts from Internet service provider EarthLink (earthlink.com), and has used those accounts to send out nearly 825 million unsolicited, commercial e-mails since March 2002. "This defendant stole the identities of innocent New Yorkers to spam millions of consumers throughout New York and the nations," Attorney General Eliot Spitzer said in a news release. "Prosecutions like this are designed to teach spammers that cyber-crime does not pay."
