📄 Editorial Review
(3*) 🔧 Services: GamesShockbyte is a specialist game server host based in Melbourne, Australia, operating under Shockbyte Pty Ltd and online since 2013. They present themselves very clearly as "by gamers, for gamers," and that focus shows throughout the product range: this is a game hosting platform first and foremost, not a general-purpose web host.
Over the years they have grown from a pure Minecraft host into a multi-game platform supporting more than 45 titles, including Minecraft (Java and Bedrock), ARK: Survival Evolved, Rust, Terraria, Palworld, Valheim, 7 Days to Die, Factorio, Project Zomboid and many others. Their own stats underline the scale: close to a million game servers hosted, tens of millions of players served and 13+ server locations worldwide. They also stress that they are one of the longest-running Minecraft hosts in the market, with a strong focus on affordability and automation.
The core business is game server rental. The flagship line is premium Minecraft hosting, sold as RAM-based plans with names like Dirt, Sand, Cobblestone, Iron, Gold, Redstone, Diamond, Emerald, Obsidian, Spartan, Zeus and Titan. These are aimed at everything from small friend groups up to serious public servers and networks. All include instant setup, 24/7 support, DDoS protection, automatic modpack and plugin installer, MySQL databases and access to the custom Shockbyte Control Panel.
Alongside that, Shockbyte offers budget Minecraft hosting (Casual, Survivor, Explorer, Warrior, Mage) for players who want a lower starting price but still need mod support, DDoS protection and full panel access. The feature set is very similar to the premium line; the main difference is how tightly resources are allocated for the price.
They also run official partnered Rust hosting, with plans such as Wood, Fuel and Metal, offering features Rust server owners actually care about: Oxide/uMod support, auto-wipes, Rust+ app support, custom maps and automatic backups. The same model applies to other games (ARK, Palworld, Terraria, Valheim, Satisfactory, Stardew Valley and many more): tiered RAM-based plans with instant deployment, DDoS protection and the same control panel and support across the board.
A few themes run through all of this: instant provisioning, global server locations, built-in DDoS protection and a self-service 72-hour refund option. Overall, Shockbyte comes across as a focused, high-volume game hosting specialist that has optimised its platform around multiplayer games, mods and communities rather than websites and email.
Legacy Multicraft
Shockbyte historically used Multicraft, and some legacy servers still use it. The documentation and knowledgebase include Multicraft guides, but new marketing material is centered on the Shockbyte Control Panel as the default experience. In practice, most new customers will be using the custom panel.
💰 Price & Cost
Shockbyte prices everything in USD and offers multiple billing cycles for most game types:
Monthly (base price) / Quarterly (roughly 10% discount) / Semi-annual (around 20% discount) / Annual (around 25% discount)
Premium Minecraft hosting
Premium Minecraft plans are RAM-based, with indicative monthly pricing like:
Dirt – 1 GB RAM, $3.99/month (first month often reduced to around $2.79), Sand – 2 GB RAM, $7.99/month (first month around $5.59)
Cobblestone – 3 GB RAM, $11.99/month, Iron – 4 GB RAM, $15.99/month
Gold – 5 GB RAM, $19.98/month , Redstone – 6 GB RAM, $23.99/month
Diamond / Emerald / Obsidian – 7–9 GB RAM in the mid-$20s to mid-$30s, Spartan – 10 GB RAM, $39.99/month
Zeus – 12 GB RAM, $47.99/month , Titan – 16 GB RAM, $63.99/month
All include mod/plugin support, DDoS protection, MySQL, instant setup and the Shockbyte Control Panel, with deeper discounts on longer billing cycles.
Budget Minecraft hosting
Budget plans are aggressively priced:
Casual – 1 GB RAM, around 3+ players, $1.99/month , Survivor – 2 GB RAM, 5+ players, $3.99/month , Explorer – 3 GB RAM, 8+ players, $5.99/month
Warrior – 6 GB RAM, 20+ players, $11.99/month , Mage – 8 GB RAM, 25+ players, $15.99/month
These still include DDoS protection, full control panel, mod support and 24/7 support; they’re simply tuned for maximum price–performance at smaller scales.
Rust and other games
Rust hosting follows a similar pattern:
Wood – 8 GB RAM, around 40 players, $14.99/month
Fuel – 10 GB RAM, around 75 players, $24.99/month (often presented as the "Most Popular" plan)
Metal – 12 GB+ RAM, 125+ players, about $40/month with configurable options
Other supported games use matching RAM tiers, generally starting in the $3–$15/month range for smaller setups and scaling upwards with RAM and player slots.
Billing, refunds and payment methods
Shockbyte’s commercial policies include:
- 72-hour money-back guarantee for game servers: customers can request a refund within three days of payment directly from the control panel via a self-service "Request Refund" button.
- Refunds cover hosting fees; add-ons and third-party services may be treated differently in the terms.
- If a renewal payment fails, a one-day grace period applies before suspension, with data kept for up to 30 days before permanent deletion.
Payment methods are flexible:
- PayPal (including card and bank sources via PayPal)
- Paymentwall as a gateway for major credit/debit cards, bank transfers, prepaid cards and mobile/SMS methods, effectively enabling hundreds of local options worldwide
This makes it easy for players in many different countries to pay, even if they don’t have a standard international credit card.
🏢 Data Center
Shockbyte’s infrastructure is clearly designed around low latency and global reach, with many locations and a modern hardware stack.
Locations
They operate servers in multiple regions across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Named locations include:
- North America – Dallas (Texas), Vint Hill (Virginia), Hillsboro (Oregon), San Jose (California), Miami (Florida), Beauharnois (Quebec)
- Europe – London (UK), Frankfurt (Germany), Amsterdam (Netherlands), plus French sites such as Gravelines, Roubaix and Strasbourg; they also reference additional European coverage (including Poland) in their hardware overview
- Asia-Pacific – Singapore, Mumbai (India), Melbourne (Australia)
Customers can choose their server’s initial location and later move it to another region directly via the control panel, which is useful for shifting communities or improving ping for a new player base.
Hardware and performance
Shockbyte highlights a high-performance hardware stack, including:
- CPUs up to AMD Ryzen 9 7950X (and comparable high-clock AMD EPYC chips) for strong single-thread performance
- DDR5 RAM for higher memory bandwidth
- Gen4 NVMe SSD storage, advertised as significantly faster than standard SSDs
- A network that they own and manage themselves, allowing them to optimise routing on individual routes and regions
They also advertise "unlimited" disk space for servers under a fair-use model, and note that hardware is refreshed regularly to keep performance competitive.
Uptime and SLA
Availability is framed in two layers:
- Marketing pages mention 99.9% uptime for game servers, combined with DDoS protection and instant deployment.
- A formal SLA promises 100% network availability and uninterrupted hardware operation for covered services, including DDoS mitigation (with a specific promise to mitigate attacks within a few minutes).
Planned maintenance, software issues, customer misconfigurations, resource exhaustion and force majeure are excluded. When the SLA applies, compensation takes the form of service extensions (extra days of hosting), and claims must be filed within a defined window after an incident.
For a game hosting provider, this is a relatively strong SLA, but it is still infrastructure-focused; it does not guarantee that a server will be reachable if, for example, a misconfigured plugin crashes the game.
✍️ Customer Support
Shockbyte makes support a core selling point and explicitly states that it is available 24/7.
Their support structure includes:
- Ticket system – the primary channel for existing customers, used for technical and billing issues.
- Live chat – aimed mainly at pre-sales questions and quick, simple support for visitors on the site.
- Contact form – for general inquiries from non-customers.
- Knowledgebase – extensive documentation covering server setup, modpack installation, configuration, troubleshooting, billing and more, with separate sections for the legacy Multicraft panel and the newer Shockbyte Control Panel.
- YouTube tutorials – step-by-step video guides on common tasks like adding mods, connecting to a server or changing version.
- Discord community – a public Discord server for announcements, updates and giveaways, and a place where customers and community members can discuss setups, mods and issues.
They are having staff on every major continent to keep response times low around the clock and position the team as comfortable with hands-on help, such as migrating from other hosts, reviewing configuration problems or helping troubleshoot connection issues.
🔨 Control Panel
A major difference between Shockbyte and generic hosts is the Shockbyte Control Panel, a custom panel designed specifically for game servers.
Panel features:
- Is custom-built and "lightning-fast," accessible via a dedicated login
- Targets both beginners and advanced users, simplifying complex tasks
Key capabilities include:
- Real-time console with smooth output, filtering and convenient log-sharing
- Integrated modpack installer with filters by category and version, making mod installation and switching much easier
- Server instances, allowing users to maintain multiple configurations (e.g. different modpacks or worlds) and switch between them without wiping everything
- Configuration editor for all major config files directly in the browser
- Backup manager for one-click creation and restoration of backups
- File manager for uploading worlds, maps and custom JARs
- Tools to change server location, upgrade/downgrade plans and request refunds from within the panel
For Minecraft specifically, the panel integrates 1-click installation of many server types and modpacks, plus MySQL database creation and plugin management.
Overall, the control panel environment is very game-centric: it is entirely about worlds, mods, backups and performance, with no website or email tools at all.
🎯 Conclusion
Shockbyte is a focused, game-only hosting provider with more than a decade of history and a clear niche: affordable, mod-friendly servers for Minecraft and dozens of other games, backed by modern hardware, many locations and a purpose-built control panel.Strengths include:
- Long-term specialisation in game hosting, particularly Minecraft and Rust.
- Wide game catalogue and official partnerships for some titles.
- Modern, high-performance hardware with global data-centre coverage.
- Simple, RAM-based pricing for both premium and budget plans.
- A genuine 72-hour self-service refund option that makes it easy to test their platform.
- A powerful custom control panel tailored to game servers, with instances, modpack installer and backup tooling.
- 24/7 support with a good mix of tickets, chat, documentation, video tutorials and community channels.
Points to watch:
- The platform is not a general web host: there is no shared web hosting, email or classic VPS for websites, only game servers.
- The 72-hour refund window is much shorter than the 30-day periods common in traditional web hosting, so customers need to test quickly after ordering.
- The SLA is infrastructure-oriented; software issues or poorly written mods can still cause downtime outside of what the SLA covers.
For players and communities that want to run Minecraft, Rust, ARK, Palworld or other supported games with good performance, mod support and an actively developed control panel, Shockbyte is a strong, gamer-oriented option. For businesses or projects needing conventional web hosting, long refund periods or detailed enterprise contracts, it is not the right fit—but for pure game hosting, it delivers a focused and well-tuned service.

😠 Good deals, terrible customer service, never again.
First off: The deals are good and usually slightly better than those of other providers.
However, I'll describe a particular case. I had arranged to play Minecraft on a server with my friends. I ordered a server from Shockbyte, but someone else in our group already had one, so I sent a "Cancellation refund" request to the Shockbyte support team to get my plan refunded again, taking advantage of the 72-hour guarantee (advertised by Shockbyte). Nevertheless, they didn't cancel my plan and continued to charge me for the initial costs as well as the monthly fees. Now Shockbyte is claiming that it's been longer than 72 hours since the purchase, even though they haven't addressed my support ticket.
Conclusion: Absolutely terrible customer service and an even more terrible way of treating customers.
