NETHolding Hosting Facilities (2001–2025): A Hidden Powerhouse of Dutch Enterprise Hosting
In the story of internet infrastructure in the Netherlands, NETHolding Hosting Facilities quietly but confidently played the role of an architect behind the scenes. From its inception in 2001 to its closure in 2025, NETHolding built its reputation not through marketing fanfare but through its rock-solid engineering, expansive peering network, and deep dedication to enterprise-grade hosting services.

Rooted in Bennekom and powered by AS24730, NETHolding's operations offered both the breadth and the precision modern businesses needed—whether for colocating a single server or running complex international operations requiring fast, secure, and scalable infrastructure.

From Cage to Core: The Colocation Advantage
Colocation was one of NETHolding’s standout strengths. With rack space available in eight high-profile Amsterdam data centers, including GlobalSwitch, InterXion, and NikHef, clients could choose anything from 1U to full private cages. But NETHolding didn’t stop at simply renting rack units. They embedded clients into a fully redundant, dark fiber network with sub-1.4ms roundtrip latency across Amsterdam—a level of performance that spoke directly to financial firms, media broadcasters, and global tech teams.

Facilities were fortified with top-tier power backup systems, advanced fire suppression, and 24/7 on-site security. It was everything you’d expect from Tier 3 and Tier 4-level hosting—without the bureaucracy of hyperscale providers.

A Backbone Built to Perform
What truly elevated NETHolding was its multihomed, BGP-optimized backbone. This was not a patchwork network stitched together for cost efficiency. It was a high-performance highway connected to Sparkle/Seabone, CogentCo, KPN, Global Crossing, and more, with dedicated gigabit connections running through London, Amsterdam, and beyond. Whether routing IPv4 or IPv6, NETHolding filtered out noise and bogus routes, delivering clean, efficient traffic that enterprise clients could rely on.

With peering at AMS-IX, BNIX, and custom-built private interconnects, NETHolding ensured that its clients weren’t just connected—they were strategically positioned for low-latency, high-throughput performance.

Application Hosting: Turning Infrastructure into Enablement
For many businesses, hosting is just the start. NETHolding smartly extended its value chain into application outsourcing. Their pitch was simple but effective: let us handle the infrastructure, updates, monitoring, and security, so your team can focus on what matters. For clients running Microsoft Exchange 2000 or custom software stacks, this meant outsourced peace of mind—no hardware headaches, just results.

They also offered hybrid connectivity from ADSL to leased lines and VPNs, helping bridge the gap between office infrastructure and cloud-hosted environments—long before “hybrid cloud” became a buzzword.

Network Innovation at Scale
Few providers could claim the scale of peering and hardware-level redundancy that NETHolding achieved. Their backbone was engineered with Extreme 10808 and Juniper M-series routers, and customer switches were powered by enterprise-grade HP switching technology. Add to that their Amsterdam fiber ring, capable of 40 Gbps per location, and you had a host not just built for today, but always preparing for tomorrow.

Legacy and Final Years
Though it ceased operations in 2025, NETHolding’s two-decade run left a clear mark on the European hosting scene. It offered a rare blend of engineering excellence, transparency, and customer-first philosophy. There were no gimmicks—just fast, secure, and reliable internet infrastructure backed by a team that knew its craft inside and out.

For clients who relied on its BGP feeds, custom peering setups, or colocation services, the closure marked the end of a trusted relationship in a market now dominated by monolithic cloud players.

Final Verdict: A Technical Provider With Deep Roots
If you were an enterprise looking for clarity, configurability, and connectivity, NETHolding was a provider you could count on. It wasn’t flashy—but in the world of mission-critical infrastructure, that was part of its appeal. It was a network built by engineers, for engineers.

NETHolding Hosting Facilities may be gone, but it leaves behind a blueprint for what technical hosting excellence looks like—resilient, responsive, and deeply rooted in performance.
