KRNIC, short for Korea Network Information Center, serves as the entity responsible for managing Korea's national internet resources. Similar to other countries like Japan (JPNIC) and China (CNNIC), KRNIC oversees the allocation and assignment of IP addresses and autonomous system numbers, as well as manages the KR domain and develops related policies. Established in June 1999, KRNIC operates under the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), which was founded in 2009.

KRNIC's responsibilities include coordinating Korean internet resources and ensuring the efficient operation and evolution of the Domain Name System (DNS).

To qualify as an Internet Service Provider (ISP) in Korea, companies must meet specific criteria set by KRNIC and KISA. These criteria include having at least T1 connections with two or more ISPs or Internet Exchanges (IX). KRNIC evaluates ISPs based on various documents, including ISP registration forms provided by KRNIC, proof of public internet service under specific statutes or certificates of commercial telecommunication carriers, agreements to comply with internet protocol management policies, business plans for internet access service, user agreements, network configuration details, renumbering plans, and IP address usage plans for the next year.
