Vultr is an independent global infrastructure cloud created in 2014 by founder David Aninowsky. The platform belongs to The Constant Company, LLC, a privately held infrastructure business whose hosting background predates Vultr by almost two decades. What began as an uncomplicated developer VPS service has matured into a substantial alternative to the largest public clouds, with compute, accelerated AI infrastructure, dedicated hardware, managed data services, storage, networking, container orchestration, and edge delivery under one account.

Scale is now part of the proposition. The company records more than 80 million deployed cloud instances, over 1.5 million customers, and customers in more than 150 countries. Its first external equity financing arrived in December 2024, when LuminArx Capital Management and AMD Ventures invested at a $3.5 billion valuation after more than a decade of self-funded operation. A $329 million credit facility followed in 2025 to support further AI and cloud expansion. This funding did not turn Vultr into a subsidiary of a hyperscaler; The Constant Company remains the operating corporate identity, while David Aninowsky serves as founder and executive chairman.

The familiar entry point is Cloud Compute. Regular Performance virtual machines combine shared vCPUs from earlier Intel generations with SSD storage and suit small sites, development systems, VPNs, light databases, and utility servers. High Performance uses newer AMD EPYC or Intel Xeon processors with NVMe, while High Frequency supplies 3 GHz-plus Intel Xeon cores and NVMe storage for latency-sensitive applications. Customers retain root or administrator access and may choose Linux, Windows, or BSD, deploy a Marketplace image, or upload and mount a custom ISO.

Optimized Cloud Compute assigns dedicated AMD EPYC vCPUs, avoiding contention from neighboring virtual machines. General Purpose, CPU Optimized, Memory Optimized, and Storage Optimized families allow closer matching between workload and resources. The newer VX1 family targets larger cloud-native and enterprise deployments with dedicated CPU resources, block-storage boot, networking up to 50 Gbps, and rapid provisioning. These products make Vultr useful beyond the low-cost VPS niche without forcing every customer into a complicated enterprise contract.

Bare Metal supplies automated, single-tenant Intel and AMD servers with no virtualization layer. CPU configurations range from modest dedicated hosts to large dual-socket EPYC systems. GPU bare metal and Cloud GPU cover AMD Instinct and NVIDIA accelerators, including MI300X, MI325X, MI355X, A100, H100, B200, GH200, and L40S families as availability permits. GPU resources can run as virtual machines, dedicated servers, or self-service clusters for AI training, inference, rendering, scientific computing, CAD, and virtual desktops. Vultr Clusters groups CPU or GPU nodes through the console or API and connects them through high-performance networking.

The platform also supplies higher-level building blocks. Vultr Kubernetes Engine is CNCF-conformant and carries no separate control-plane management charge; it integrates worker nodes with load balancers, DNS, and Block Storage. Container Registry stores public and private images, supports a Docker Hub proxy cache, and reduces image-pull latency across available regions. Managed Databases support MySQL, PostgreSQL, Valkey, and Apache Kafka with automatic updates, monitoring, backups, encryption, scaling, and multi-node failover. Three-node database clusters retain up to 14 days of point-in-time recovery data.

Storage is divided by workload. Object Storage is S3-compatible and offers Standard, Premium, Performance, Accelerated, and Archival classes; its distributed design exceeds eleven nines of data durability. Block Storage provides expandable HDD or NVMe volumes, AES-256 encryption, replication, and attachment of as many as 16 volumes to an instance. Vultr File System supplies shared, hierarchical NVMe file storage for multiple virtual machines and Kubernetes environments. These are separate services rather than free unlimited disk space, which makes capacity and traffic planning important.

Networking products are unusually broad for an independent provider. Regional and Global Load Balancers include health checks, automatic failover, SSL handling, and geographic routing. Direct Connect links Vultr privately with on-premises facilities and other clouds through hosted or dedicated connections. VPC networks, cloud firewalls, reserved IPs, DNS, Layer 3/4 DDoS mitigation, BGP, and bring-your-own-IP support cover common production designs. Vultr CDN adds push and pull delivery, CMS compatibility, caching, image optimization, and distribution across six continents. Serverless Inference completes the current AI stack with globally scaled model serving, an OpenAI-compatible API, private vector data for retrieval-augmented generation, and token-based billing.

This is not traditional shared or reseller hosting. A Marketplace image can install WordPress, cPanel, or another prebuilt stack, but the customer remains responsible for operating-system security, patches, application configuration, backups, and recovery unless the selected managed product explicitly includes those tasks. That distinction makes Vultr flexible for technical buyers but less turnkey for a first website owner.
