*📜 Plan description

3 x Storage Large V3 is a Ceph storage cluster built on 3 Storage Large V3 servers and tuned for high-capacity object, block, and file storage workloads. It provides about 330 TiB of usable capacity at 85% hardware utilization using 2/1 erasure coding with roughly 66.67% efficiency. The design pairs 4 x 4TB NVMe cache drives with 12 x 18TB HDDs on each node, plus a separate 512GB boot disk, so read and write hot spots can stay on fast flash while the bulk of the data sits on large-capacity spinning media. Each server uses 2 x Intel Xeon Silver 4314 processors and 256GB of RAM, giving the cluster strong CPU headroom for Ceph services and erasure-coding work. Included network capacity is 2160TB of egress per month and 20Gbps connectivity per server, with fair-egress pricing only after the included transfer pool is exhausted. The quoted price is as low as $3,175.20/month and reflects US location pricing with a 5-year agreement and base support; European pricing varies and assisted management can be added. The cluster is positioned for limited-size deployments where a compact starting footprint is still expected to deliver enterprise Ceph behavior, and it can be used as primary storage, large-scale S3-compatible object storage, or a replication target for disaster recovery.

Ceph storage clusters run on dedicated OpenMetal infrastructure with root control and room to scale from a starter deployment into multi-petabyte footprints. The platform supports object, block, and file storage, S3-compatible access, custom Ceph versions on request, and replication to another OpenMetal cloud or another Ceph environment for recovery planning. Billing is monthly for stand-alone storage clusters, ingress is not charged, and traffic beyond the included allowance follows the OpenMetal fair-egress model using 95th percentile billing with optional guaranteed bandwidth plans from sales. OpenMetal Central is the web portal for account, billing, and support workflows, with ticketing, emergency escalation, documentation access, and direct contact paths to the support team. Base support is included, assisted management is optional, and a 30-day money-back guarantee is available for customers evaluating fit.

📄 Editorial Review

OpenMetal (est. 2021) is a serious infrastructure provider built around open-source private cloud rather than low-end mass-market hosting. The business was originally created by InMotion Hosting, and the whole platform is shaped around giving customers a practical alternative to hyperscale public cloud bills. The leadership is visible, with Todd Robinson serving as co-founder and president, and the technical direction is clearly centered on making OpenStack and Ceph easier to consume in production without forcing customers to buy and maintain their own hardware.

The product range is broader than a normal hosting company, but it remains focused on infrastructure, not shared hosting for simple websites. Their main catalog includes Hosted Private Cloud, On-Demand Private Cloud powered by OpenStack, Bare Metal Dedicated Servers, Ceph Storage Clusters, GPU Servers & Clusters, Cloud Expansion Nodes, Spot Hardware, and Managed / Assisted Private Cloud options. That makes the platform much more relevant for SaaS companies, cloud providers, MSPs, Kubernetes-heavy teams, storage-intensive projects, AI workloads, and organizations trying to move away from AWS, Azure, or GCP than for beginners who only need a basic cPanel account.

The strongest point is the architecture philosophy. OpenMetal gives customers full root access, production-ready deployment in about 45 seconds, dedicated hardware, and a cloud stack based on OpenStack + Ceph instead of proprietary lock-in. The core private cloud starts as a 3-node hyperconverged cluster, which is a meaningful difference from VPS-style products that start tiny and scale later. This also explains why OpenMetal feels more like an IaaS platform than a traditional hosting shop.

The website is essentially English-only, and pricing is shown in USD.
