*📜 Plan description

The Hobby CloudSite is the shared entry plan for small personal projects and hobby applications. It includes 1 CPU, 10 maximum workers, a 1GB application pool, 15 percent CPU usage, 1TB monthly bandwidth, 1GB included storage expandable up to 100GB, custom domains, 20 minute session timeout, SSL support, 64 bit processes and the Always-On feature. It is the lowest priced CloudSite tier and works well when the application needs GearHost deployment, managed runtimes, DNS and SSL without a reserved web farm node. Additional CloudSite storage is priced separately per extra gigabyte and can expand automatically after the included limit.

GearHost operates a PaaS cloud for .NET, PHP and Node.js applications with a custom control panel for creating CloudSites, scaling resources, managing DNS, publishing code and handling account services. The platform supports .NET 5, .NET Core 3.X and 2.X, classic ASP, PHP 7.X and 5.X, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL, with older runtime support also listed for .NET 3.5, 4.5 and 4.6 full trust plus PHP 5.3 through 5.5. CloudSites can move between shared and reserved web nodes with one click and without code changes or service disruption. All listed CloudSite plans include solid-state drives, clustered high availability web nodes, DNS record management, custom domains, SSL support, Git publishing, FTP publishing, Visual Studio publishing, monitoring and 64 bit processes. SSL can use IP based SSL, SNI SSL, uploaded PFX certificates, generated CSRs, ordered certificates and Lets Encrypt on eligible plans. Billing is hourly until the monthly cap, using an estimated 672 hours per month. A credit card unlocks paid plans, larger databases and add-ons, while account signup can begin without a credit card. Support is available through ticket, email, phone, toll-free number and community discussion, with platform monitoring running continuously. Network facilities use redundant power, battery backups, onsite diesel generators, tier-1 transit and 10 Gb-E connections.

📄 Editorial Review

GearHost is a U.S. cloud hosting provider with a developer-first profile rather than a traditional shared hosting catalog. Their main strength is CloudSites, a PaaS-style application hosting platform for .NET, PHP, and Node.js projects. The service is designed for quick deployment, scaling, database connectivity, DNS management, SSL, Git/FTP/Web Deploy publishing, and application hosting through a custom control panel.

This is not a classic cPanel shared hosting company and not a broad VPS or dedicated server provider. GearHost is better understood as a Cloud Hosting / Application Hosting provider for developers, small SaaS projects, business websites, WordPress, Joomla, DNN, OrchardCMS, PHP applications, and Microsoft-stack projects that need managed platform hosting without full server administration.

Their service range includes Cloud Hosting, .NET Hosting, PHP Hosting, Node.js Hosting, Database Hosting, Managed Email Hosting, DNS, SSL Certificates / Let’s Encrypt, One-Click Apps, and Developer Application Hosting. They do not currently have the same product depth as providers selling VPS, dedicated servers, reseller hosting, colocation, or domain registration as core services.

GearHost was founded in 2000, with Ryan Kekos associated with the company as CEO and founder. The company has a long operating history for a niche PaaS host, and its business profile remains small and specialist. LinkedIn places the company in the 11-50 employees range, with headquarters in Chandler, Arizona, while legal contact information uses an Englewood, Colorado address.

The website is only clearly available in English, and pricing is in USD. The design also feels older compared with modern cloud platforms, and several areas still contain legacy wording or older technology references. That does not make the platform unusable, but buyers should pay attention to current plan details, framework support, and status information before moving production workloads.

A notable historical change is the end of the old free CloudSite plan in 2021. Current customers should treat GearHost as a paid cloud application hosting platform, not a free web hosting provider.
