📅 March 30, 2004 - The Planet Internet Services (theplanet.com -> softlayer.com -> ibm.com), a Dallas-based provider of managed hosting and data center services, introduced the Total Control Server Program on Tuesday, enabling customers to purchase bundles of Web hosting hardware and services on a monthly basis without putting any money down.

According to the company, Total Control Server is designed for customers who require hosting services beyond a dedicated server, but do not want to purchase non-essential equipment and services. Peter Pathos, president and chief executive officer of The Planet, said the program allows small and medium-sized businesses to purchase managed hosting services that are typically priced beyond their budgets.
"With Total Control Server, we offer hardware, software, rackspace, bandwidth, tape backup, and professional services to customers in a buffet-style layout," says Pathos. "Companies no longer need to worry about the unknowns of a long-term commitment, and they can now select the bundled services they need. By eliminating unnecessary up-front investment costs and bundling service items, we?re making managed Internet hosting solutions available to everyone."
Total Control Server offers approximately 40 different hosting services and components such as dual 2.8Ghz Intel Xeon processors, 1GB ECC registered Ram, a 100 percent SLA guarantee, Red Hat Enterprise 3.0 or Windows 2000/2003, Urchin statistics, FloodGuard DDoS mitigation, RLS Total Control, remote server management, centralized tape back-up services and 2000GB of premium bandwidth.
Pathos said The Planet has sold more than 200 agreements in March and expects to see sales climb substantially in the coming months.
Last week, the Planet announced it would include Urchin analytics software with its dedicated servers.
