Apr 21, 2004 : Savvis Launches New Content Delivery

📅 April 21, 2004 - Managed hosting provider Savvis Communications (savvis.net -> lumen.com) has launched a newly expanded suite of content delivery network services (CDNS), the company announced on Tuesday. The new services include content delivery, streaming media production and delivery, traffic management and global load balancing.

Savvis said the service allows customers to focus on eliminating capital equipment ownership costs, deliver worldwide coverage and scalability, and on-demand storage and delivery capacity.
"Savvis' content delivery network service enables true end-to-end delivery of all the necessary applications related to the creation, management and distribution of digital content, and that offering is unique to Savvis, no one else can do it all under one roof," says Rob McCormick, chairman and chief executive officer of Savvis. "There are other players who are offering CDN-style services, but these are typically boxes in a rented rack, or a software patch approach - not a totally integrated, global, end-to-end service platform, as Savvis is delivering."
Savvis said a large number of the assets making up its CDNS offerings were acquired as part of its recent acquisition of Cable & Wireless USA.
Savvis' media and content services are currently available in 45 countries.
