May 27, 2004 : TeleCity Tapped by British Council

📅 - European colocation and data center service provider TeleCity (telecity.com) announced on Thursday that it has formed a partnership with the British Council to build, manage and support the Global Gateway portal. The site is being developed on behalf of the Department of Education and Skills.

Telecity's knowledge in building and managing infrastructure and systems, which support portal platforms, was crucial in setting-up the Global Gateway Web site and ongoing management of the network infrastructure.
The site will enable those involved in education, worldwide, to build creative partnerships. Through collaborative opportunities such as joint curriculum activities and resources, the Global Gateway is expected to have a significant impact in fostering alliances between education ministries and schools in other countries.
The extensive platform, which will be operated and managed at one of TeleCity's Docklands premises, required installing an operating system and various applications. These included a bespoke package of colocation, IP Multihome (for resilient connectivity), Managed Security (including firewall and antivirus), data backup and recovery services, and monitoring and network infrastructure management.
"TeleCity welcomes the opportunity to help public sector organizations realise their network infrastructure goals," says Ricky Hudson, CEO of TeleCity. "We are therefore delighted to be associated with such a high profile project on behalf of the DfES and be involved in the development and management of the Global Gateway."
