) had the most reliable Web hosting company Web site last month, according to research and analysis firm Netcraft's (netcraft.com) survey of Web site reliability. It was the first time Rackspace topped Netcraft's survey.

New York Internet, Verio and Pair Networks followed Rackspace in positions two through four. Datasync, Go Daddy and InetU took places five through seven, while Tiscali, Datapipe and Hurricane Electric rounded out the top 10. Datapipe topped the list last month.
Making its first appearance in the top 10 list of most reliable sites was Go Daddy. Placing in the top ten was particularly notable considering the large volumes of traffic drawn by a controverisal Super Bowl ad and its fallout.
Four of the top ten sites ran on Linux, two on Windows Server 2003, three on FreeBSD and one on Solaris. Rackspace runs on Linux, the first time that operating system had supported the most reliable host since June 2004, says Netcraft. Since that time, either FreeBSD or Windows Server 2003 ran the most reliable site.
Netcraft measures and makes available the response times of fifty leading hosting providers' sites. The performance measurements are made at 15-minute intervals from seven separate points around the Internet, and averages are calculated over the immediately preceding 24-hour period.
