Mar 11, 2005 : LINX Lends Help to Anti-Spam Campaign

📅 - The London Internet Exchange (linx.net) has announced that it has been helping government agencies worldwide in their efforts to decrease spam.

The organization has joined the London Action Plan network, a coalition that coordinates action by government agencies and private sector companies in 21 countries in order to help enforce anti-spam laws.
This week, LAP announced the results of its first global spam-trapping exercise, which took place last month in association with the International Consumer Protection and Enforcement Network. A total of 138,904 spam emails from trap accounts and existing agency accounts were analyzed and categorized. The largest categories were found to be spam promoting software and computer equipment, adult pharmaceutical products, adult content, financial services and body enhancing products.
Currently, agencies have flagged 3,241 emails for further investigation with regard to possible legal infractions in various countries.
