Each year for the past 14 years, Network Magazine has evaluated thousands of new products in a number of categories, including network hardware, software, security and services. This year, SAVVIS? was rated best in the services category.
Networking Magazine created the Product of the Year award to identify and distinguish the superior products and services in the professional networking environment. According to the magazine, the winners this year were chosen for several reasons, including the fact that they display significant new capabilities before their competitors can, they represent breakthroughs in performance and price, and they solve the problems that affect a wide cross section of the magazine's readers.
In naming SAVVIS? Private IP Virtual Private Network services the winner, the magazine said it was clear that the movement toward network-based IP-VPNs is gathering steam. The publication also said that it chose SAVVIS? product over companies like AT&T, MCI WorldCom, Qwest Communications, and others because SAVVIS? site-to-site VPNs are delivered over the company's top-rated ATM-based private backbone. This was important because, says the magazine, customers have more confidence in ATM, and MPLS is still a while away from extending to customer gear.
Some of the recent customers to have purchased SAVVIS? Intelligent IP NetworkingSM services include financial services companies such as the New York Stock Exchange and the Boston Stock Exchange, and enterprise customers such as Headhunter.com, LookSmart and Akamai.
The Product of the Year award winners will be featured in the May issue of Network Magazine, which is distributed to 200,000 network professionals. This year's winners will be recognized at an awards presentation Wednesday, May 9 during Networld + Intershop Spring 2001, at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas.
