👈 Official Responses: 0), a leading provider of managed Internet hosting services, announced on Monday that it has formed an agreement with BT Wholesale (btwholesale.com), a unit of the United Kindom's telecommunications giant British Telecom, to supply the company's wholesale customers with managed hosting services.
The deal will allow service providers in the UK to purchase managed servers and solutions from Rackspace Managed Hosting through BT Wholesale sales representatives, as well as through a co-branded service on the BT Wholesale Web site.
As covered in Adam Eisner's April 25 feature "Go East", the deal is part of a bigger nine-month-old push by the Texas-based hosting company to make its way into the European Web hosting market.
Rackspace says that BT Wholesale, operating as a fully independent business unit of the BT Group, is considered a market leader in helping operators enter the European telecommunications and data services market. In operation since 1982, and employing more than 30,000 peole in the UK, BT Wholesale provides its products and services to other operators.
The agreement, says Rackspace, is also a part of the company's decision to expand its channel marketing program by selling its services directly to other service providers. BT Wholesale currently has over 500 customers that range in size from well-established fixed, mobile and cable operators, to a growing group of emerging resellers, service providers and ISPs.
BT Wholesale says it has researched the field, and believes that no other managed hosting company can provide its customers the level of service and support that Rackspace can.
Rackspace says it sees BT Wholesale's decision to enter the relationship as validating, adding that BT Wholesale is among the world's most successful telecommunications providers, and that Rackspace anticipates a mutually beneficial relationship.
Rackspace Managed Hosting has established itself as a force in the managed hosting arena, with a reputation for customer satisfaction and its ability to set up servers quickly. The company now has more than 3,100 servers under management, and opened its European data center in London, England in June 2000.
