Oct 6, 2005 : Apache, Microsoft Add Web Server Share


📅 - Apache and Microsoft both increased their shares of the Web server market last month, according to research and analysis firm Netcraft's (netcraft.com) monthly Web server survey.
 In terms of total hostnames, Apache increased its market share 0.74 percentage points, from 69.15 percent to 69.89 percent. Microsoft gained 0.19 percentage points, increasing its market share from 20.36 to 20.55 percent. Both Sun and Zeus lost ground. The results were slightly different in terms of active sites. Apache lost 0.67 percentage points and Microsoft gained 0.75 percentage points, leaving them with 69.24 percent and 23.46 percent market share, respectively. Netcraft's survey measures Web server software use on all Internet connected computers. The October survey received responses from 74,409,971 sites, marking an increase of 2.68 million sites over last month.
