Jan 1, 2000 : Web Host AISO Builds Green Data Center

📅 - Web host provider AISO.Net (aiso.net) announced on Wednesday it has built a new environmentally friendly data center in Romoland, California. The data center took six months to build, and is completely solar powered through the use of over 120 ground mounted solar panels.

AISO.Net has been using solar panels since 2002 to power its data center, but wanted to redesign the data center to help fight pollution and preserve natural resources. The building also includes solar tubes, drawing in natural light from the outside. Each tube replaces 300 watts worth of electric lamps for 5 hours a day, 5 days a week.

The interior was built using steel studs and contains several layers of insulation, which gives the facility an R-value equal to R 50. This high R-value keeps the cool air in and the hot air out, significantly lowering the amount of energy needed to operate the data center.

AISO.Net has also installed APC air distribution and removal units in each of its server racks. The APC units have automatic fan speed adjustment based on temperature, enabling greater energy efficiency. The APC Air Distribution units are fan coolers that bring in cold air from outside of the rack into the rack-mounted equipment.
