ASO General Assembly for 2000 and Call for ICANN Board Nominations

The Address Council of the Address SupportingOrganisation is pleased to announce the first ASO General Assemblymeeting, to be held on Friday 19 May 2000, in Budapest, Hungary.This meeting will be hosted by RIPE NCC alongside the RIPE-36meeting, and will be open to all parties with an interest inASO policy matters. A detailed meeting agenda will be publishedin due course on the ASOweb site.

In compliance with the ASOMoU, the Address Council and ICANN hereby call for nominationsto the ICANN Board, of candidates to fill vacant ASO seats onthe ICANN board as they become vacant. The first such seat scheduledto become vacant is currently occupied by Mr. Pindar Wong, whowill stand down on 30 September 2000. However, candidates nominatedat this time may also be chosen to fill seats which become vacantbefore or after this time. Note that appointments to the ICANNboard must satisfy the geographic diversity constraints specifiedin section 3c of the ASO MoU.

Any individual may be nominated withinthis process, with the exception of any official of a nationalgovernment or a multinational entity established by treaty orother agreement between national governments (ICANNBylaws Art. V., Sec 5). Self-nominations are permitted.

Nominations should be sent by email to<secretariat@aso.icann.org> and should state the followingdetails :

B. Details of nominating individual

Nominations must be submitted in Englishand must be received by the ASO Secretariat before 0900 GMT 19April 2000 (30 days prior to the General Assembly meeting). Afternomination all nominees will be contacted via email to confirmtheir willingness to serve as an ICANN Director. If the nomineeis not contactable via email then the nomination will not beconfirmed, and nominee must explicitly confirm the nominationfor the nomination to be considered confirmed.

All confirmed nominations will be listedon the ASO web site assoon as they are confirmed. Those wishing to express supportfor any individuals who have been nominated should use the "ICANNBoard - Support of Nomination" Form which will be made availableon the ASO web site.

The list of nominated individuals and thesupporting comments will be passed to the Address Council afterall nominees are confirmed, and prior to the General Assemblymeeting on 19 May 2000.
