Jan 27, 2006 : IBM Acquires CIMS Lab

📅 January 27, 2006 - IBM (ibm.com) announced on Wednesday that it had acquired software vendor CIMS Lab for an undisclosed amount.

CIMS Lab develops enterprise software that tracks computing resource usage in virtualized environments, aggregating IT data and translating it into financial information.

"Keeping tabs on IT costs is daunting for any organization facing a maze of platforms and systems that traditionally have been tracked separately and manually," says Al Zollar, general manager of IBM Tivoli software. "CIMS Lab software helps companies take control of their IT costs - a key advantage of IT service management."

IBM says the acquisition complements its existing portfolio of management software for virtualization technology.

"CIMS Lab is an important addition to IBM's unparalleled virtualization portfolio of hardware, software and services," says Rich Lechner, vice president of virtualization for IBM. "Customers are increasingly taking advantage of virtualization technologies to make it simpler and less expensive to optimize computing systems and lower the total cost of ownership across their entire IT infrastructure."
