Anthropic Commits $11.6 Billion to Akamai for CPU Workloads
📅 - Akamai has secured an $11.6 billion, seven year cloud services commitment from Anthropic, a deal centered on CPU workloads rather than the graphics processors that dominate AI infrastructure headlines. Akamai expects roughly $5.5 billion in related capital spending. For hosting operators, the agreement puts a number on the computing capacity needed to operate AI services at scale.
Akamai says the commitment could grow by another $9 billion, but that expansion would require further purchases on mutually agreed terms. The existing contract is substantial on its own.
