📅 - OVHcloud is questioning whether Europe's emerging AI Gigafactory model can support the economics required to justify massive GPU investment, arguing that current public commitments leave operators carrying much of the commercial risk. The concerns were laid out in a newly published blog article by OVHcloud founder, Chairman and CEO Octave Klaba, who challenges several assumptions underpinning the proposed infrastructure model.
Klaba argues that single-site designs, nationally bounded demand, and the rapid depreciation of GPU hardware could leave multibillion-euro infrastructure projects struggling to maintain sufficient utilization. 📅 - OVHcloud Raises Dedicated Server Prices as AI Drives DDR5 Costs Sixfold - OVHcloud is raising prices across parts of its dedicated server portfolio after the cost of DDR5 memory it buys increased sixfold in a year, a surge the French cloud provider attributes largely to AI demand. New orders are already affected, while existing customers on recent server generations will face higher renewal prices from October 1, 2026, too.
The increases are unusually large in places. New memory options are rising by a median 127%, while storage options increase by a median 89%. 📅 - OVHcloud Warns AI Boom Could Drive Server Prices Up by 87% - OVHcloud is preparing server price increases of up to 87% as surging memory and storage costs feed through Europe's cloud infrastructure market, with CEO Octave Klaba blaming AI-driven hyperscale procurement for distorting component prices and forcing the French provider to reprice new bare-metal systems while increasing some existing contracts when customers next renew them from October onward.
