📅 - In 2013, the FBI was granted a search warrant that allowed them to legally hack into more than 300 target email addresses on TorMail. Redacted documents published recently by the Department of Justice show that the hack actually applied to every user of TorMail, the anonymous email service, not just those specified in the search warrant.
The ACLU petitioned a U.S. District Court this September to gain access to the docket sheet containing the search warrant authorizing the hack, which was part of a child pornography investigation.
“Under the warrant the FBI deployed a network investigative technique (NIT) against 23 websites to obtain the real IP addresses of their users. Users attempting to visit any of those sites, which include a notorious child pornography site as well as TorMail, would unknowingly download malware which revealed their IP while the page displayed an error message.” – The Whir News

📅 - Venture Firms Not Focused on Diversity - According to a survey conducted by LinkedIn Pulse, venture capitalists are concerned about revenue targets and hiring the right people instead of worrying about diversity. Investors don't seem to be very concerned with the diversity within the management rankings or the commitment of building a diverse team.

📅 - Google Cloud Platform Rapidly Expanding Regions - Google Cloud Platform (GCP) recently launched its new Asia-Northeast region from Tokyo to give the company more traction in the Asian market. The new region increases GCP's presence to two regions and six zones in Asia. That's not including the planned expansions for the Asian market in Mumbai, Singapore, and Sydney still to come next year.
Google's expansion plans also include new regions in the United States, Finland, Germany, UK, and Brazil. With six regions and 18 zones available currently, Google is planning to reach 14 regions and close to 40 zones at the end of next year.

📅 - Virtuozzo Has New CEO - George Karidis, a veteran of the web hosting industry, has been named the new CEO of Virtuozzo. Karidis has been a familiar face in the industry for sometime. Before joining Virtuozzo on Tuesday, Kardis was president of Cloud Technology Services at CompuCom, served as chief strategy officer and chief operating officer at SoftLayer, and also worked with IBM.
“I knew a lot of the team already, and they were a big partner when I was at SoftLayer,” Kardis recently said in an interview. He is replacing interim CEO Mike Riolo, SVP Worldwide Sales who has been filling the role ever since Rob Lovell left Virtuozzo in the summer.
