📅 - A recent estimate conducted by IDC, a research firm, valued the worldwide big data market at $136 billion. If you have an interest in big data, this figure should come as no surprise.
What is shocking, however, is the estimated annual cost of poor quality data: $3.1 trillion, as IBM estimates in one report. Even to someone working in the data field, that number is alarming.
This bad data is both costly and time consuming for data scientists to sift through, which leads many to believe that there could be a new market emerging.

📅 - Box Receives BCR Approval - Box announced Tuesday that they have received approval for its Binding Corporate Rules (BCRs) from the UK Information Commissioner's Office and Data Protection Authorities of Spain and Poland.
The seal of approval extends certified data protection to both customers and Box European Economic Area employees. The review focused on the data protection policies and practices of the Box corporate family.
Binding Corporate Rules assure consistency of data protection practices across geographic and corporate borders. Box says they are the only company in the world with both APEC Cross Border Privacy Rules and BCR certification.

📅 - More DDoS Attacks Reported Nationwide - DDoS attacks have been reported in increased numbers this week. The most massive DDoS attack reported this week was 665 Gbps in size and attacked cybersecurity journalist Brian Krebs' website, Krebs on Security, through its Prolexic DDoS mitigation service. The attack forced Akamai to drop the website due to its magnitude.
Other attacks have been seen in the hosting industry this week, hitting websites like Cogent and OVH. Krebs suggested that “whoever built this DDoS cannon has been testing it.” At press time, Krebs' website is still offline.
