Microsoft Reaches into Flow Battery Research for Data Centers
📅 - The race is on to find efficient, effective ways to store large amounts of energy. Now that renewable energy is on everyone's minds, many companies are looking to research to find new ways to store vast amounts of energy. Microsoft is among them. They announced this week that they will be investing in new battery technology that could power its data centers without using power from the grid.
Microsoft partnered with two companies to research the new “flow battery” technology and how it could provide an alternative for centers that use large amounts of energy.

📅 - Former Oracle Employee Blasted for Claims - A former employee of Oracle claims the company cooked the cloud revenues and now Oracle is blasting them in court. The employee was a former senior finance manager and stated that the numbers for cloud revenues from Oracle are inflated.
Svetlana Blackburn was fired from Oracle in 2015 and stated the reason for the firing was her unwillingness to use improper procedures for accounting when it came to the cloud revenue. She claims she was told to add “millions of dollars in accruals to financial reports, with no concrete or foreseeable billing to support the numbers.”

📅 - Brexit Causing UK IT Departments to Scramble - Brexit will bring new changes and a survey done last month showed how IT firms across the globe were preparing for the changes. The survey really looked closely at the UK and found that many IT professionals are force to rethink future budgets and are scrambling to deal with the changes Brexit will bring.
Spiceworks conducted the survey and found that many things in the IT market are expected to get more confusing, while spending will be delayed. They also found that many organizations are worried about how it will affect data storage and how it will change the overall usage of cloud solutions.

📅 - Open X-Change Launches Bug Bounty Program - Open X-Change made an announcement this week: They are launching a bug bounty program that is open to the public. Open X-Change companies like PowerDNS and Dovecot have been hosting bug bounties that weren't open to the public. Those programs are now hosted on HackerOne – and the only way to get in is by invitation.
The public programs will allow anyone with the right knowledge to look for bugs and report them for a prize. Companies are resorting to programs like this to crowdsource their ability to detect and pinpoint existing bugs in software.

The deal is expected to add profit within two years. SGI provides machines that help with creating computer-generated images for movies. They have also created products to help with data analytics, data management and computing. ...
📅 - Googlement may be the Successor to Government Sachs - Government Sachs was a phrase used for the Wall Street firms during the financial crisis because they seemed to have control of all the important positions in Washington. Now, it may be Googlement because Google is large enough to spend money on lobbying lawmakers and regulators in their favor.
Google has gone from spending about $1 million on lobbying ten years ago to nearly $17 million in 2015. Only General Electric and Boeing spent more. Google also has a very tight relationship with the Obama administration.
