📅 - BigCommerce is helping merchants take Pinterest fans and turn them into paying customers. They are doing this with the launch of Pinterest Buyable Pins on desktop, which was launched in May of this year on mobile devices.
Pinterest has stated that the majority of the site traffic comes from the mobile app. However, the majority of checkout experiences are still happening on the desktop.

📅 - FASTER Submarine Cable Backed by Google Going Live Soon - FASTER, the submarine cable backed by Google will go live this week and add much needed bandwidth between the data centers in Taiwan, Japan and the larger Asia-Pacific market and the United States. This project has been completed after about two years of work and the cable will start carrying traffic today, according to a Google spokesperson.
The FASTER system connects to Bandon, Oregon, Chikura, Japan, Shima Japan and Taishu, Taiwan. The landing stations are all found near data centers where the traffic is carried to other area locations.

📅 - Vocus to Acquire 3 Australian Communications Companies for $637 Million - Vocus Communications announced their intention to acquire three Australian companies, including Nextgen Networks, one of Australia's largest fiber networks, and two sub-sea cable projects, The North West Cable System and the Australia Singapore Cable project.
The total cost is estimated at $637 million once deferred considerations are taken into account. Vocus recently closed $652 million in funding, which will cover the acquisition and any existing debt.

📅 - Number of Businesses Using Encryption Jumps 7% Over Past Year - More businesses are encrypting their secure information than ever before. Research by Thales found that the number of businesses using encryption rose 7% over the last year – the largest increase in more than a decade. Two of every 5 companies are now using encryption extensively. The study surveyed 5,000 professionals from 14 industries in 11 countries to get this information.
The following industries use encryption the most: Financial services, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and technology.

📅 - Samsung Planning Dramatic Expansion of Joyent Engineering Team - Samsung recently acquired Joyent, a cloud platform provider in San Fransisco, CA. The deal was announced on June 16th. Samsung plans to aggressively recruit new employees for the Joyent core engineering team, a unique move following the acquisition. Many companies rely on massive layoffs and job cuts after an acquisition.
Joyent CEO Brian Cantrill says Samsung is planning a dramatic expansion of “…the core engineering team…product engineering, product, operations, quality assurance, solutions architecture and so on.”

📅 - Despite Brexit, Amazon Moves Forward with UK Data Center Opening - Amazon's plans to open a London data center early next year will continue despite the recent Brexit vote to leave the European Union. A spokesperson for Amazon confirmed that the data center will not be hindered by the vote.
Stephen Orban, head of Enterprise Strategy at AWS, said “Demand for all our services is growing across Europe. For us it's business as usual.” He also stated that Amazon remains “committed” to opening the center on schedule at a customer conference in Frankfurt on Thursday.
