Versaweb to Include DDoS Protection on All Dedicated Servers
📅 - Due to the increased prevalence of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Attacks targeting enterprises and network infrastructure providers, Las Vegas-based hosting firm Versaweb will now include DDoS protection at no additional cost on all of their dedicated server hosting plans.
Versaweb has been offering hosting and other Internet services customized for small and medium businesses for over 10 years. Recently, however, the company has seen a dramatic uptick in the size and frequency of DDoS attacks targeting servers hosted on their network, requiring swift action to ensure protection was available for all of their customers.
Rob Tyree, Versaweb's CTO and founding partner, stated “We've been offering DDoS mitigation services to our customers for several years as an optional service, and many of our customers were already subscribing to our various protection plans. However, after several very high-profile recent attacks which caused millions of dollars in lost revenue and other damages, we decided that it was time for a shift in our thinking as far as protecting our customers is concerned. After months of development and beta testing, we're proud to announce that we are now offering protection for every server on our network.”
Mr. Tyree also noted that while all servers on the Versaweb network are now protected by their DDoS mitigation platform, premium protection levels would still be available for customers requiring higher levels of protection or that need protection services backed by a Service Level Agreement (SLA).

📅 - Increased fragmentation of ‘dark Web’ poses great security challenge, say Chertoff and Simon in new paper - It would not be surprising to see the dark Web's criminal underbelly become more fragmented, and therefore more complicated to investigate given wide-spread online surveillance by states and the recent arrests of cybercriminals. This is according to a new working paper issued by the Global Commission on Internet Governance (GCIG).
The Impact of the Dark Web on Internet Governance and Cyber Security is authored by former US Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff and Tobby Simon, president of the India-based Synergia Foundation.
The new report was recently presented at the GCIG meeting that took place from February 14-15 in London, United Kingdom. The GCIG is a two-year initiative laun
