Intel Announces Plans to Merge PC and Mobile Processing Division by Next Year

📅 - Chipmaker Intel announced plans on Monday to merge its PC division with its mobile processing division, which is expected to be completed by early 2015.

“The market continues to evolve rapidly, and we must change even faster to stay ahead,” wrote CEO Brian Krzanich via email.

According to CNet, the new division, Client Computing Group, will be lead by Intel's PC Client Group Kirk Skaugen, which will include the sale of modem chips used in mobile devices and processors.

“The lines are blurring between PCs, tablets, phablets and phones,” said spokesman Chuck Mulloy. “The idea is to accelerate the implementation and create some efficiency so that we can move even faster.”

During Inel's third quarter results, the company reported a loss of more than $1 billion for its Mobile and Communications Group.
