Oct, 2014 : FTC Appoints Ashkan Soltani As New Chief Technologist

📅 - The Federal Trade Commission has appointed Internet privacy expert Ashkan Soltani as the new chief technologist, a move that suggests that the agency is focusing on customer's online privacy.

Soltani has worked for many different organizations providing technology consultations. He was an investigative reporter for The Washington Post, former chief technical consultant for The Wall Street Journal, and technology researcher for The New York Times, reports the New York Times.

FTC chairwoman Edith Ramirez stated that Soltani will advise the agency on “evolving technology and policy issues.”

“Technology and online and mobile platforms are continuing to evolve at a rapid pace and will remain a key focus for the F.T.C. as more and more consumers adopt mobile devices and tablets,” stated Ramirez.

Ashkan Soltani will succeed Harvard security scientist Latanya Sweeney in November.
