Google To Begin Granting “Right To Be Forgotten” Link Removal Requests By The End Of June
📅 - Google is preparing to start removing links from its search results following last month's ruling concerning Europeans “right to be forgotten.”
According to The New York Times, citing sources with knowledge of the issue, the tech giant will grant link removal request starting at the end of the month from those who say their online privacy is being violated.
Google's legal department will oversee an internal team that will review user's requests to see if they meet the necessary requirements. Users must provide information on why they want the search results deleted, and prove how the links are inappropriate, irrelevant, or outdated.
If Google turns down a request, the individual can take their case to the European Court of Justice for further reviewing.
Last month the Mountain View based company created an online form for European link removal requests. More than 50,000 forms have been filled out, with more than 12,000 coming from the first 24 hours of the release.
In response to the court's ruling, Google created an advisory group composed of company executives, privacy experts, and regulators to offer guidance and recommendations on how to adapt its policies.
