Google Plans To Bring Wi-Fi To Cites Slated To Receive Its Fiber Service
📅 - Google is looking into the possibility of launching Wi-Fi to cities slated to receive its Google Fiber service, reports PCWorld.
According to documents given to those who live in the 34 cities slated to receive the fiber service in 2015, Google says it will be “discussing our Wi-Fi plans and related requirements with your city as we move forward with your city during this planning process.”
The tech giant has given the candidate cities a detailed request for information asking for descriptions of building types and information about streets, manholes, zoning types, and pavement conditions, which is due on May 1st.
If Google does bring Wi-Fi to these areas, it will install utility huts in each city that requires 24 hour access and must be on land that the company can lease for at least 20 years.
The hut, 12-foot-by-30-foot, runs fiber cables either along utility posed or under groud fiber ducts and can give Internet access to 288 or 587 houses.
“This process will take some time, but we hope to have updates on which cities will get Fiber by the end of the year,” said Google.
Google Fiber is currently available in Provo, Utah, and Kansas City, with Austin, Texas, next to receive the service “soon.”
